Messages For Sam

By April 26, 2011May 19th, 20148 Comments

Many of you are by now aware of the tragic passing of our friend and Freebord Team Rider Sam Trowbridge.

Words cannot adequately express the heaviness in our hearts. Sam touched so many lives around the world and contributed so much. Not just through his riding, films, and passion for Freebording, but more importantly because of the quality of his character. Sam will continue to be an inspiration for generations of riders to come and will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Sam’s good friend and fellow Freeborder Luke Howell will be compiling an album of letters to present to his family. If you would like to contribute, please follow the instructions below.

I think Sam’s family need to know how he touched the lives of so many people, so I’d like to make a simple album, containing messages from anyone who loved, looked up to, idolised, knew or admired Sam.

If you would like to be involved, please do the following:

1. Write a short (less than 50 words) message to Sam, his parents, or those close to him, and enclose it in quotation marks (“Like this”). If you do not speak English, write it in your own language.

2. After the message, write your name and where you live (Luke Howell – Perth, Australia)

3. Email the above with nothing else to [email protected]

Thank you!
Luke Howell

Thanks Luke for setting this up. I’ll get on it as soon as I get home.

  • “It’s the moments in life that forever change our thinking.., we are not sure where the journey will take us, but we know that Sam touched our lives and his journey continues. I wish for his family a lifetime of peace knowing he lived, he loved, he adventured.”

“I am deeply sorry and saddened by the loss of a truly inspirational rider. I’m a snowboarder that has acquired a new found love for freebords. Sam and the team showed the snowboarding community a summer version of our passion. He will not be forgotten and I no longer ride my snowboard or freebord without a helmet. Everything can change in an instant, sorry luck was not on his side that day, but his legend lives in all of us.”

Sam’s Dad Steve got me into longboards and freeboards and I have never looked back. I worked with Sam on a ABC kids show ‘Rollercoaster’. I taught him some camera tricks while he showed me some boarding tricks. I’m just one of those guys who was inspired by his passion and coolness, and feel a huge sadness in my heart. His spirit will ride with me forever…A massive loss.

I would like to say on behalf of myself and all of team high country that Sam was a huge influence on our love for riding. The clip where he was bombing the sidewalk and then airs over the drainage to the street is one of the clips that got us on a bord. Sam you will be greatly missed and you will always live on through our memories in this close knit freebord community we have. THC crew is riding a session today in his memory. Thank you Sam for all the great footie and inspiration. May the hill on the other side be endless and preesh.

    Rest in Peace,
Paul and Ryan Anderson and the rest of THC Crew
