Review: Finally, a way to train for snowboarding during the summer

Because of the extra rotating wheels under the middle of the Freebord, it can spin 360 degrees. When you slide to dig an edge of the snowboard into the snow to bring yourself to an abrupt stop, you rotate in the transverse plane. This ingenious invention allows you to put your weight heel- or toe-side to slow your speed, spin or drift.

LIKED This is the first piece of equipment we’ve seen that allows for functional training for snowboarding miles away from snow. While riding a skateboard down the street during the offseason may provide some crossover effect, motion is primarily carving from side to side in the frontal plane. The Freebord gives the rider the capacity to spin, too, just like on a snowboard.

NOT LIKED The folks at Freebord were quick to point out the steep learning curve and they were right. Both of our riders were experienced snowboarders and it took them a couple of days to get the basics. Unlike soft powder, catching an edge and smacking pavement is likely to leave a mark. Pads and a helmet are required.

Progression and innovation is what drives us. Through years of evolution and rider driven design, Freebord has engineered a setup that rides exactly like a snowboard on pavement.
