Meet The Men Behind Freebord Suisse
If you haven’t seen or heard about Freebord Suisse, then you have been living under a rock for the past two years. Meet Sébastien Jam and Pierre Linckenheld, the two maniacs behind the powerhouse scene in Switzerland.
Pierre discovered Freebording 7 years ago, “I was surfing extreme sports website’s 7 years ago, and I remember seeing a video of Justin Oliver, who totally left me impressed. One week later, I bought my first Freebord, a 80cm Corporate deck, with alpha trucks. I did not expect that it would take me to this place in my life!”
Pierre burst onto the scene with strong riding and creative videos, and in 2013, he was named Freebord Stand-Out of the Year. When we asked him what he had in store for us next year, he responded with
“I want to push higher limits, try bigger tricks, utilizing the banshee bungee, and try to stay original and work on innovative Freebord films with Seb…”
Pierre handles the business side of Freebord Suisse, and is responsible for the Lausanne Slopestyle , an event now in its third year. The event strives to create an environment similar to that of a snowboard park, incorporating jumps, rails, kickers, etc., in a downhill run. The Slopestyle is growing every year and is not just limited to Freebords, but features various types of downhill sports. Pierre also has this to say to anyone thinking about getting involved with Freebord, “Join the Family! Go! There are so many ways to feel free and alive with the Freebord! Snowboarding the Streets is addictive”
29 year old Sébastien Jam is not only one crazy ass mofo on a Freebord, he shreds a snowboard like a boss and is currently pursuing his dream of making the cut for the Freeride World Tour in 2015.
He began Freebording in 2008 with the TAKA Crew in Reunion Island, as a way to progress and keep his legs strong during the summer months. Compelled by the strong community spirit behind the sport, he teamed up with Pierre Lickenheld and together they formed Freebord Suisse.
Seb is the head of video production at Freebord Suisse and just this year his video, “The Man with the Golden Wheel” won our Best Submitted Video Award, so be sure to check it out along with his other videos.
When we asked him what he would say to others thinking about getting into the sport, he replied “Just do it! It is less painful to crash on the road than tumble into rocks in back country”, spoken like a true madman!
When he is not Freebording, Seb is busy filming and hitting backcountry snowboard runs in Verbier and throughout Europe for the Freeride Contest. We highly recommend checking out his highlight film, “Enjoy the Ride” , featured below, it’s pretty f***** insane!
